You have your web site, now how to get traffic. Are you just going to hope people just happen to stumble across it and buy from you? Not a very good way to succeed. You could wait forever for that first customer. No matter what your online business is, you need a list to really succeed. As they say, "The Money is in the List!" But how do you build a list? There are several ways of doing this. Three are listed below. You can use any or all of them.
Forums and discussion boards.
Using this method, you will want to find forums and discussion boards related to your business. Use Google or whatever search engine you prefer to find a list of them and post on several. Post several times before posting you lead capture link. Let them get to know you first. This way you are more likely to get people to click on your link. As these are people who are already interested in the same things your business is about, they will be more likely to be highly targeted, responsive people with an intense interest in your business.
Ebay and Paypal.
If you have bought or sold anything through Ebay or Paypal related to your business, there could very likely be people in your records who would like to know more about what you have to offer. Send them an e-mail with your lead capture link, asking them if they would like to subscribe to your newsletter or e-zine. A one time e-mail is best with a notice that they will not receive more if they choose not to subscribe is best. Those who do subscribe are those who have a high interest in what you offer.
Joint Venture Giveaways.
This is a method that has proven very successful in building lists very fast. Start by joining a giveaway as a subscriber and you will soon have access to many giveaways. You will, of course, need a product of your own that has value that you can give away. When people click on the link to get your product, they will be taken to your lead capture page where they must subscribe before getting the download link. There are two ways of giving the download link. You can have your lead capture page take the customer directly to the download page. The best way, though, is to send a confirmation link to double-opt-in to your list, then send the download link. You will want an autoresponder to do this and all the other ways of capturing leads.
These three methods are not by any means the only way to build your list, but they are among the easiest and quickest ways to build a targeted, responsive list. You will be amazed at how quickly your list will grow. There will always be some who drop from the list but don't be discouraged. With good content, it will continue to grow, especially if you continue to use thses methods of getting subscribers to your list.
